Design Review

The Urban Vision Design Review Panel was established in October 2004 and held monthly meetings up to March 2011, when national and local government cutbacks made it impossible to continue with a scheduled programme of meetings.

The work of the Panel has made a significant difference to the design quality of many major development proposals in North Staffordshire, as evidenced by the quality of schemes shortlisted for the North Staffordshire Design Awards in 2009 and 2010.

Raising The Bar: Design Review and Enabling in North Staffordshire 2004-2011

The final Annual Report of the Panel's work - The Design Advisory Service: Raising the Bar 2011 - encapsulates the impact of the Panel and gives many specific examples of improvements that have been achieved by the Panel's advice.  To download a copy of the report click here.

Urban Vision's Design Review Panel now meets when requested by local authorities or private sector clients.  To arrange a design review panel please email mickdowns@uvns.org or ring 01782 790595.

Design Enabling Support

Urban Vision's design enabling work, carried out by its own professional staff team, also has a series of significant achievements.  These include the country's first city-wide urban characterisation study - The North Staffordshire Conurbation: an Assessment of Historical Significance (2007), and project managing the production of the Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent Urban Design Guidance SPD (2010).
