Spaceshaper Facilitator Training. 8th December @ Urban Vision
Introduction
Spaceshaper is a practical tool for measuring the quality of a pubic space before investing time and money improving it. It works by capturing the perceptions of both professionals and users. More information can be found at www.cabe.org.uk/spaceshaper. CABE Space launched Spaceshaper in February 2007. The aim is to get the tool used in a wide variety of spaces, to demonstrate its different uses and to test how accessible it is, including further development of the draft young persons’ version. Use of the tool will be evaluated on an ongoing basis and modifications made to the software, a library of case studies built up, and a network of facilitators trained and supported.
The role of the facilitator is critical to the success of the toolkit, not just in terms of delivering successful workshops but also in being an advocate for Spaceshaper.
As a Spaceshaper facilitator you will be expected to lead Spaceshaper workshops. This includes advising on how Spaceshaper can add value to projects, planning successful workshops attended by an appropriate mix of public space users and professionals, managing the discussion in a positive and neutral way and ensuring the objectives for each session are met. This may also mean offering your own experience of other public spaces to help inform the debate between participants. The final report needs to capture the discussion, plans and commitments made. You are also required to feedback to CABE Space on how the toolkit is performing so that it can continue to evolve over time. The Spaceshaper tool and brand belong to CABE Space. Spaceshaper facilitators work independently of CABE Space, and do not directly represent the organisation.
CABE Space is offering an initial full training day, on Tues 8th December at Urban Vision North Staffs offices in Stoke-on-Trent, to successful applicants to teach them how to plan and deliver a Spaceshaper workshop. Generally, the cost for the training day is £150 for private sector, £100 for public sector and £50 for community / voluntary sector organisations (plus VAT), but for staff or volunteers from either Architecture Centres or Planning Aid there will not be any charge for the training on 8th December 2009.
The deadline for applications has now closed however there may be a few last minute spaces available so please do call Hannah Barter on 01782 575321 or e-mail hannah.barter@uvns.org
