Communities in Design

Over the next few months Urban Vision is offering  a programme of skills development and individual support for local communities who are bringing forward their own projects and plans to improve their neighbourhoods.

With the support of Design Council CABE and the RIBA, we are inviting local community groups to get involved in this programme which is aimed at helping you get your ideas and initiatives off the ground. 

The programme will be of particular interest to parish and town councils, and in urban areas to local and neighbourhood forums, who want to improve their environments, enhance services or increase prosperity, as well as local groups who want to take on a building and re-use it for community benefit.

Designing New Neighbourhoods

This conference took place on Friday 21 October 2011 and was very well received. Some 49 delegates attended, including community representatives, architects, and regeneration professionals.  30 persons provided written feedback on the day and all said they had found it useful or helpful.

Understanding Design

This practical workshop aims to help community groups interested in developing their own projects and developments, to understand and navigate the design and development process.  The aim is to help communities develop the skills and knowledge they need to develop and deliver well designed schemes which will enhance their neighbourhoods.  The event will take place on Wednesday 23 November and is sponsored by Design Council CABE.  For further details follow this link.

Surgery sessions with community groups

Individual action meetings to identify the key design and planning issues for their projects and determine how best to deal with them.  Urban Vision will be offering bespoke professional support for four community groups participating in the Communities In Design programme.  Sponsored by Design Council CABE.

Design Review Panel

Special panel session for community groups, giving free independent design and development advice on community-led projects from a group of independent experienced professional experts.  The Special Panel meeting will take place in December and is sponsored by Design Council CABE.  Watch this space for further details.
