Architecture Week 2005

Drawing|City|Futures

On Saturday 18 June a community drawing event took place in the City Centre of Stoke-on-Trent (Hanley) to celebrate Architecture Week 2005.  The Drawing|City|Futures project was the result of joint working by local interested groups including the Burslem School of Art, the RIBA North Staffordshire Branch, and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the importance of a quality built environment by getting local people to draw what they like in the City Centre and then what they would like to see in the City Centre of the future.

A broad variety of people did drawings on the day, which were scanned and stitched together by digital artist, Mark Wood, to form a new townscape.  The results were printed in poster format and mounted on the hoardings around the Unity House redevelopment site, as a symbol of change and regeneration.
