“The Shop that Doesn’t Sell Anything”
In a move to continue its animations of the high street in Longton, the ‘I Love Longton’ Project is taking over a vacant shop in Bennett Precinct. It will offer an information hub or one-stop-shop relating to the forth coming “Longton Plots” public arts programme and the on-going drive to offer local people a way-in to the cultural, social and economic regeneration of the town and how they can get involved.
As a development from the very successful “Longton Buzzes” series of arts projects: Longton Festival of Pastimes; Under One Roof; Made in Longton and Wired Wood, “The Shop That Doesn’t Sell Anything” will have changing exhibitions of local creative activity for the next 6 months, commencing with:
“A Pattern of Places” – Artworks by students of Longton High School.
The on-going creative displays will include photographs of the town past and present; documentation of the recent highly successful Christmas Lights Switch-On event; and film footage of the many local contributions throughout the project.
It is exactly 2 years since the I Love Longton Project hosted the Valentine's Vision Day at Longton Town Hall, which saw 160 local people ranging in age from 6 to 86 working together to start to build a vision for the town. We invite all ‘Lovers of Longton’ to pop in while they have a minute and see how things are coming along.
The imminent “Longton Plots” public arts programme and forthcoming Longton Masterplan will ensure that the next few months are very lively in the town. The shop, which will be open 2 times a week from next week, will be a place to find out what’s going on!
Also, We are looking for local volunteers to help out in the shop and any local musicians that would be willing to let us profile their music in the shop – we would love to hear from you. Please contact Janette McSkimming on 01782 5754321 or by email: janette.mcskimming@uvns.org
