Testing Design Quality.

A series of tailored seminars, workshops and best practice visits held during 2009. This interactive training programme targeted at officers and members from North Staffordshire Local Authorities aimed to equip both officers and members with the skills and knowledge on key topics including ‘Building for Life’ and design and access statements. The programme enabled participants to challenge and understand how to deliver high quality in North Staffordshire through the highly successful peer review sessions.

 

Urban Vision North Staffordshire present the 2009 officer & member training programme ‘Testing Design Quality’. This series of tailored sessions aims to equip both officers and members with the skills and knowledge on key topics including building for life & design & access statements.

This programme will enable participants to challenge and understand how to deliver high quality development in North Staffordshire looking at local examples within the sub-region and Leicester City Centre.

Testing Design Quality will draw upon the experiences of places that have benefitted from high quality design and examine the lessons that can be learnt understanding the process of place making in our sub region.

Event 1: Building for Life

As part of the national programme ‘Building for Life’ Urban Vision in partnership with CABE are offering official assessor training co-ordinated by Dominic Church, senior policy advisor CABE. This interactive session provides guidance on BFL & how the national programme is being introduced into the decision making process.

Event 2: Peer Review

Date: Wednesday 24th June 2009

A unique & interactive opportunity for members & officers to reflect on recently built successful high quality & poor quality schemes in the borough, understanding the decision making process, identifying the attributes that make a successful development that positively contributes to the built environment.

Event 3: Best Practice Visit

Leicester City Centre

Date: Tuesday 14th July 2009

Delivering high quality mixed-use retail led development & high quality public realm in a historic city centre. Leicester a city of comparable scale to Stoke-on-Trent has achieved this through a £350 million project in the retail core. This best practice trip enables officers & members to explore & understand how to procure & deliver high quality developments of this scale. Including presentations from Leicester Regeneration Company & Leicester City Council.
